How do you mount a weaver #2 side mount scope base to a merlin model 80 bolt action 22lr?

This seems like the best answer to my 1st question of can I mount a scope to this rifle. I don't have ***** holes on top for the top mount. I looked at the picture of the weaver side mount but couldn't figure out how it fits on. Does it ***** in to the stock? (Thanks for all of the good answers I received on my last question)

It should bolt to the side of the receiver, but will require taking the rifle apart and replacing the pins with screws(or replacing screws with longer screws), which should be included. Not all the holes in the mount will be used, as it’s sort of a universal solution for a number of other rifles. The side mount will require more work and not be as good as the top mount bases. I’d forget about that and just stick with the two top mount #12 bases.

As a Gunsmith, I can tell you that a side mount will also require that at least 3 holes be drilled into the side of the rifle receiver. In addition a little bit of the stock will have to be cut out to make room for the side mount so the base will allow the rifle action to fit flush back into the stock. With the Model 80, you would in fact be better off letting the Gunsmith tap into the top of your receiver (4 holes) and mount a one piece or 2 piece scope mount base. It will be a better looking mount and it won’t limit access to your barrels chamber opening for cleaning purposes. It would also be a few dollars cheaper to do it on top than a side mount, and no wood would have to be removed…..

Don’t use the side mount for this rifle. Use a top mount.
Take it to a gun smith. He will drill and then tap (cut threads) four holes like JD said, then he’ll mount two little mounts. You can then attach scope rings to the mounts.
