There is absolutely no comparison. Leupold is the way to go.

I have owned 2 Nikon scopes and literally dozens of Leupold scopes. The Nikons that I owned has a real problem with the crosshair becoming “fuzzy” when I increased the magnification of the scope.

Also, Leupold has the best warranty service in the industry.

  2. I want something like I remember

I’ve got two Nikons and one Leupold. The Nikons are very good but I prefer Leupold because they are made in America. One of my Nikons was made in Thailand and the other in the Philippines. For the money you want to spend look at the Nikons and lap the scope rings for a sure grip on the scope tube.

    check out falcon scopes

also if ur ok wth fixed power, supersniper from swfa.com are the best for around 300. As good as leupolds that are around 3 times the price.

Nikon scopes are getting better year after year, Leupold are getting cheaper (lower end scopes). The new Nikon Monarchs are hard to beat. Another great scope is the Bushnell 4200 Elite. Good luck.

I am a long time Alaskan hunter – my 338 is the primary firearms for hunting moose and caribou in brown bear country.

I have usd allot of leupods – my current one on the 338 is the Vari-X III 4x-14.4x tactical with a 30mm tube and 50mm AO. It has side focus wihich means i can shoot with or without glasses , and, I can pass the rifle to a buddy and he can instantly set a perfect focus. That, and the target turrents, once calibated, allow me to fire dead on from 100 to 600 yards. With this rifle, and my custom loads – most anyone can put three rounds in the same hole at 200 yards. At 500 yards you can hit a coffee can with ease. I have this scope mounted on a Sainless Ruger 77 with a custom muzzle break and trigger job from Mike Fowler of Anchorage.

Nikons are nice – but – you are not going to find these features under $300. More like a $800 scope – but – this scope is a life time guarantee and is going to be with you the rest of your life!

    Hope this helps

Leupold is pretty much the best thing in it’s price range and above it’s price range a bit. I’ve compared I don’t know how many scopes including the OMG expensive and I still go Leupold. Great performance at a good price.
