It is a Remmington 700 SP 30-06 with a 3x9x40 Nikon scope. They are asking $700.00 for the package deal. It is a bolt action with a real wooden stock. I am new to hunting and need some help.

well thats about average, what are you hunting, and where are you hunting? Some areas on the east coast mainly, don’t allow deer hunting with rifles. Remmington 700 is a great all around gun, 30-06 will take down white tail all the way up to elk, if you have never shot a gun you might not be ready for a 30-06, it packs a heavy hit to some people. my first rifle i bought was the Remm. 710 in 30-06 when I was about 8 or 9. I was used to hunting with my father’s .300mag and 7mag so the -06 was a step down from them.

Sounds like an alright deal. A little overpriced but not much. I’d buy it.

If it has not been dammaged then I would say it is worth the money. If it has been used a lot then take off one hundred.

If you are new to hunting, then you don’t need a $700 gun. Buy a Marlin 336 lever action .30-30 to start with. It’s a good intro gun for around $300 or so.

If you want a .30-06, I would buy a cheaper gun to see how much you enjoy hunting.

You can go to or to see what guns are selling for at auctions and search for similar models.

One last thought, I would buy a composite stock and not wooden stock if I planned to hunt in wet or humid conditions. It depends on where you live. Also, don’t pay retail. Try to talk them down and check other sporting goods stores before buying.

its a fair deal on a good rifle. but I would recommend a stainless rifle with a synthetic stock if your going to spend that kind of money.

A fair price for both seller and buyer. You cannot go wrong with 30/06 as a caliber as it is almost as good as the 8mm Mauser. You have a wide range of ammunition available and it will serve for anything in the lower 48. That is a good scope, too. It should last you a lifetime.

If this is brand new, with the scope that’s a good deal. If it’s used there is ALWAYS room to haggle and I’d try ‘em at $600 knowing that if worse comes to worse you can always pay $700. as said earlier, 30-06 is a great cartridge with many different bullets for many different applications. Before you go hunting, take it to the range and practice, practice , practice!! There is no such thing as being too safe!

In like-new condition, average, depending on which scope in particular that is.

It will pay you to shop around…

    It sounds high to me.

Take a look, this one has a cheaper scope….a Simmons not a Nikon, but not that much different….

If you have money and don’t need to shop around for the best deal, go for it.

You can get into a good rifle for just over half that $700…..say $400. Depends on how much you want to spend and how much you want a “pretty” rifle rather than a functional cheaper one.

Depend on the Model 700, the 700 used to be in BDL and ADL models. the BDL was the higher end model, fancier grade of stocks. if the stock is pretty plain jane sounds like the price is a little high in my estimation. If the wood is fairly figured you may be getting a value.

Cost for the Remington hinges on stock grading.

I’m no great fan of the Remington M-700, but that is a pretty decent deal. Not one to go bragging about, but not one to feel like you’ve been taken either.

    I think it’s a fare price.

Yes, go ahead and buy it. The Remington M700’s are still the most popular centerfire rifles on the market. As far as the 30-06 goes, it will kill anything from deer to moose. And Nikon is a good brand of optics. The deal is hard to pass up. Good luck.
