Once again scopes?
By spotter ~ November 18th, 2008. Filed under: Burris Scopes.
I looked at Cabela's line up of scopes yesterday and was told that nikon and zeiss were the two best brands (for my price range). Sadly I forgot to ask about the burris xtr
I was told that leupold's were not as good compared with nikon or zeiss
this is where you come in
can you find me a scope around 400-600$ that has clear optics a mil-dot and variable zoom (Nikon Burris or Zeiss) ( a scope with turrets would be a +)
clarity is the most important
also anything you can tell me about the Burris XTR would be very helpful I am leaning towards this scope (as it has everything I want in a scope) but if the optics are not clear I dont want anything to do with it
-Personal experience is highly valued-
the Shepherd scope is cool but is outta my price range (at least for what I could find)

I have been looking for the best scope for my purpose also. I think I found it and it might be right for you. Between 650 and 725 depending on which magnification that you prefer. Look at a Shepherd. It has a couple different magnifications 3-10 or 6-18 X 40. One shot zero. Good for varmints or Deer, Elk, Moose, etc. From 100 yards to 1000. Check them out and let me know what you think. One shot one kill. Guaranteed for life.

zeiss on a whole different level from burris and nikon, in both quality and price. are you sure your looking at the right price list? i think the zeiss price range is more in the 600-800+ and most nikons are all under $250. burris is somewhere in between. nikons are good optics for the cheap price but nowhere near the quality of a leupold. for what your looking for id recommend a bushnell elite 3200 or 4200. variable zoom, large adjustable target turrets and mil dot reticle. pretty decent quality, about the same as nikon. ive used one for years with no problems, very clear optics. theyre not expensive but still alot better than bsa/trashco/etc by far

Ziess and Kahles are overpriced, Simmons, Tasco and Bushnell are junk on a centerfire rifle. Nikon has good glass but the warranty is not very good. That leaves the best of them all-Leupold. The scope and the clear glass are made in the USA in Beaverton Oregon. The warranty is superior to any other. I had a vintage 1955 scope that lost it’s nitrogen filling. I called Leupold, sent it too them in 2003 and got it back with new seals, impeccably clean glass and refilled with nitrogen. The only cost to me was shipping to them, all repair and return shipping was on their dime-Incredible. That is why I own mainly Leupold (About 45 of em). The other’s that I have, just for your info. are one’s that I inhereted and they are mostly Lyman’s, Kollmorgen’s, Unertls and a few Redfields. I had a Burris once and decided that it was not as clear as Leupold, sold in and bought a Leupold 2.5×8 EER for my XP-100R in .260 Rem. Bottom line, buy a Leupold for the function, clarity, helping the American economy and no hassle warranty-these scopes just plain perform under all conditions. Yes, they are expensive, but again as the old adage says: “You get what you pay for”

If the Burris scope has the features you are looking for buy it. Burris makes quality optics. You’ll get 20 different opinions from 20 diferent people on here but you are the one that’s going to be using the scope. I’ve used Burris EER scopes on T/C Contenders and the clarity is excellent. The Burris Fullfield II on the 25.06 has never failed me either. Just as good as my Pentax scopes and cost less. Any of the scopes you’ve mentioned are good but if you like the Burris, go for it.

both great brands, but i think you have your information incorrect with the leupold, better check more up on it.
